Hi, I'm Kriket, don't ask - it has been my nickname since I was born :)
I am a full time practicing jeweller, mum to 4 year old Jacob, partner to Mark (in life and business), lover of all things beach related and a collector of hand crafted objects. I love to travel and for many years we lived overseas, as a result, I have a tendency to suffer from sudden and severe bouts of wunderlust. Sitting in the warm Sydney sun will have us reminiscing about long holidays campervanning through France or stolen weekends in my favourite city of all, Barcelona.
I have been making for as long as I can remember - from around the age of 3 and this lifelong passion for creating has certainly taught me to be resourceful and has honed my sharp eye for detail, resulting in my own unique design style. It has led to many jobs in the past such as public artist, community artist, sculptor, mosacist, art therapist, gallery assistant, jewellery gallery owner and small business entrepeneur.
When I am in my studio however, my focus shifts to my core passion, which is designing and crafting limited edition collections of gold and silver jewellery which feature beautiful antique sea glass and my ceramic beads. I create my collections for women just like you, who value unique, ethically made pieces that are elegant and timeless. I am intrigued by the idea that over time, jewellery which is loved and treasured and worn regularly becomes a part of us, informing others of our life stories and our journeys thus far.
My passion for collecting sea glass began around 10 years ago. Before we relocated back to Australia recently, my little family and I lived on the Isle of Anglesey in Wales. It was there that I found my very first piece of seaglass. Like a magpie I collected as many tiny, perfect jewel like pieces as I could; I just couldn’t bear to leave these treasures on the beach! My hordes of glass sat in trays and bottles all over our house and I was determined to create something with them.
At the time there was little information on seaglass or its properties and so began a the challenge of how to incorporate my finds into my jewellery designs. I now have seaglass collections from Seaham in North East England, Barcelona, France, Italy and Anglesey. But it is the antique nuggets from Seaham Beach that capture my imagination the most.
I enjoy contemplating the history of my seaglass pieces, many of which were tumbling around in the waves of the North Atlantic for 100-200 years before I discovered them. I often find myself lost in an almost meditative state as I search through my collections – hunting for the perfect shape to match a pair for earrings or lusting over a perfect, oval nugget that would look divine set in gold bezel and made into a ring.
Prior to my seaglass obsession I mostly made jewelelry with my hand made ceramic beads which are based on the recipes of the 5000yr old Ancient Egyptian technique of faience. I have adapted and developed my own secret formulas and recipes to perfect the surface, colour and form of my totally unique kiln fired beads. As a result, the surface of my beads are shiny and glossy and the colours rich and pure.
Because my jewellery collections are so labour intensive, involving many processes I tend to release limited online collections for purchase at a given time. To ensure you are first to gain early bird access to these new designs and collections it is essential to be on my mailing list. Not only will you get the thumbs up a few days before general release you will also automatically go into the draw to be included in quarterly giveaways as well as receiving a 15% off gift voucher to use online. What’s not to love about that?
